CONCERT Band – Important UIL preparation info

Our Concert Band has been scheduled as the second band to perform in this year’s Region 24 UIL Concert and Sightreading contest on Tuesday, April 4th. Our schedule for that morning will be posted below.

In preparation for our UIL performance, and in order to get our students used to performing early in the morning as we will be required to do for UIL, we are going to hold 3 mandatory morning rehearsals prior to UIL.

Please mark your calendars for the following rehearsals (students will need to enter through our exterior Band Hall doors, which will be open at 7:10).  Rehearsals will end in time for students to attend morning tutorials if they desire to do so.

We will rehearse 7:15-8:00 on the following dates:

  •        Monday, March 27th
  •        Thursday March 30th
  •        Monday, April 3rd

On Tuesday, April 4th all Concert Band students will need to report to the Band Hall at 7 am, dressed in their complete formal concert uniform.  (Please make sure it has been cleaned since pre-UIL – it was hot in there!)  Gentlemen especially, please make sure you have black dress socks!  We will be taking a bus to Wakeland HS for our performance.  Parents are welcome to attend the contest.  Our official performance time at Wakeland is 8:25, and we will sight read at 8:50 am.  When we are finished sight reading we will bus back to Griffin.  Students should be back in time to attend most of 2nd period.

It would be helpful to have a couple of parents to help “chaperone” the students for this event.  Assistance is really only needed in the short amount of time between the completion of sight reading and our departure from Wakeland.  If you are planning to attend the event and are willing to help monitor the students as they exit the sight reading room and board the buses, please let Mrs. Cansler know!  (canslerca@friscoisd.org)
