Hello, GatorBand Family!
It’s hard to believe, but we’re only about a month away from the new school year, and a couple of weeks away from SummerBand 2016! I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer (I have!), but I’m getting excited to see everyone again and start on the new adventure that the new school year brings.
We will be rehearsing August 8-11 in the GMS Band Hall, from 5-7 pm each evening. This is the time during which we will learn the bulk of our pep band music for the fall. I hope to have that music available online for you to print out your parts some time next week. If you are in town, I need you at rehearsal. It’ll be a good time and we’ll some fun new additions for this year. Keep reading!
It would be helpful if percussion students could arrive at 4:30 pm on Monday, August 8, to get equipment set up. We will also have representatives with us MONDAY ONLY from 4:15-4:50 in case you need to replenish reeds or valve oil. They will also have music lyres and flip folders which students will need for pep music (8th graders should already have these, but 7th graders will need them), and ALL 7th and 8th graders will need to have the Foundations for Superior performance book for their specific instrument. Again, 8th graders should already have this.
We won’t be rehearsing on Friday, August 12. Instead, all students who have been present at rehearsals are invited to join us at the Frisco Athletic Center (5828 Nancy Jane Lane, Frisco, TX 75035) for a swim-stravaganza from 5-8 pm. We’ll provide water and pizza. Students will need to pay admission ($6).
For some added fun, we’ll be having theme days during SummerBand, offering students to earn some (not-so) FABULOUS prizes! Judges will be awarding prizes based on the section with the “best” participation in that day’s theme (attire must still be school dress-code appropriate). There may be other treats involved as well. The themes are:
- Monday, August 8 – Hawaiian Day
- Tuesday, August 9 – Tie-Dye Day
- Wednesday, August 10 – Super Hero Day
- Thursday, August 11 – Gator Spirit Day
Also – mark your calendar for our first performance of the school year (and combined band registration) on September 1st. This will be a fun event for the whole family! Details coming soon!
Start planning now. I can’t wait to see you all soon!
